Online Mentoring as Good as In-Person
Our increasingly urbanized society and our technology-mediated lifestyles distance most of us from the biological and non-human physical world. Environmental problems present a challenge for education and outreach because they are inherently complex, interdependent, and interrelated. The need for environmentally literate citizens has never been greater. We need people who can work toward an eco...
متن کاملRobust Person Guidance by Using Online POMDPs
The paper considers a guiding task in which a robot has to guide a person towards a destination. A robust operation requires to consider uncertain models on the person motion and intentions, as well as noise and occlusions in the sensors employed for the task. Partially Observable Markov Decision Processes (POMDPs) are used to model the task. The paper describes an enhancement on online POMDP s...
متن کاملPerson-Independent Continuous Online Recognition of Gestures
This paper presents a gesture recognition system based on Hidden Markov Models. It has several user friendly capabilities like person-independent and backgroundindependent recognition. It can distinguish between up to 24 different gestures. An improved system is able to recognize gestures continuously and output the result with no noticeable delay.

Using data from Wave 1 (2004-2006) of the National Survey of Fertility Barriers (NSFB), a national probability sample of women ages 25-45, we examine online information-seeking among ever-infertile women. Of the 1352 women who met criteria for infertility, 459 (34%) neither talked to a doctor nor went online for information, 9% went online only for information, 32% talked to a doctor but did no...
متن کاملGait Recognition Based Online Person Identification in a Camera Network
In this paper, we propose a novel online multi-camera framework for person identification based on gait recognition using Grassmann Discriminant Analysis. We propose an online method wherein the gait space of individuals are created as they are tracked. The gait space is view invariant and the recognition process is carried out in a distributed manner. We assume that only a fixed known set of p...
